Last October, we took a road trip to Houston and on our way back we decided to drive to Baton Rouge, LA to visit Houmas House Plantation and Garden. The plantation is famously known as the crown jewel of Louisiana River Road. It is stunningly beautiful as ancient oak trees lined the antebellum estate.
If you appreciate vintage, antiques and historical places like me, you will definitely fall in love with the architectural detail of the grand house and its lavish furnishings and décor. Evidently, the estate had collected a reasonable amount of on-screen accolades in the movie industry. One is the classic movie, Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. The bottom right picture was where Bette Davis slept during the production of Hush Hush Sweet Charlotte. And because I have a penchant for old classic black and white movie, I had to watch the movie.
The tour of the estate was very enriching; it deepened my knowledge of Southern culture and lifestyle of that time. If you ever make a trip to Baton Rouge, I would strongly recommend a visit to Houmas House Plantation and Garden. Here are some pictures of the garden around the estate.
